Orchids galore!

Last month The Barbados Orchid Society held its annual showcase at Balls Plantation, in the south of the island.
The Barbados Orchid Society is dedicated to the promotion of orchid culture on the island.
This year's show took place from March 16-17, 2013, and was titled "Orchid Celebration."
I was not able to attend this year's showcase, but my girlfriend who did, sent me these lovely photos for us all to enjoy.

It's a good thing I didn't attend...I think I would have made off with this wheelbarrow full of orchids!
For those who did not have green fingers, lovely plant paintings were also available for sale.

    1. They are so many new varieties now, that I can't ever hope to catch up.

  3. I enjoyed those - thank you! That painting though is one that really caught my eye - I love the colours the artist has captured.

    1. Glad you liked the painting, however, I have no idea who the artist is.
I'm not sure if my orchid girlfriend entered the showcase this year, but I'm hoping to submit an entry or two sometime in the future.

  4. I was fortunate, Virginia, to work with one of England's foremost orchid experts back in the sixties. The irony of it is that he could never get me to share his enthusiasm. They are stunning flowers (and your collection is beautifully varied showing them at their best) but to me they have a formality that just doesn't 'do it' for me. Give me the bluebell and the primrose and the snowdrop and I'm much more content.

    1. GB, my goodness, what haven't you done in your life? You are a real all-rounder my friend. Working with an orchid expert would make my day.
Sorry orchids don't do it for you, I'll have to remember that...smile.
We don't get snowdrops here, but there is a roadside flower that we call a primrose here, and it is pretty.
