My friend Patrick

I spent a lovely Independence Day morning visiting with my friend Patrick...we talked about everything under the sun, moon and stars.
We had not had the opportunity to have a good chat for a while, and so we laughed and teased each other for over an hour enjoying each others company.
He was excited about his upcoming trip to go home to spend the Christmas holidays with his family, and did not let me forget it.

The day was beautiful and sunny with hardly a cloud in the sky, and the garden where he worked was picture perfect.

He insisted we take a few photos, which I did half-willingly.  He seemed so happy and vibrant and so full of life, that I did not want to burst his euphoric bubble.

He teased me about my "Twilight" t-shirt wondering if I had seen the series....told him I had watched them all.
He gave me a lovely cardboard palm for my upcoming garden project and I thanked him for remembering and for his thoughtfulness and kindness.

He loved going to the beach to relax after a hard week's work....and that is where he left us.
Sadly while swimming, he had a stroke and passed away yesterday afternoon after I left him.
I can't express how much I am going to miss him with his ready laugh and friendly smile, his comic banter, and true loving spirit.
May the angels take you safely home my friend.
I will miss you.

  1. Virginia, I am so sad for your loss and for that of Patrick's family who will not see him for Christmas. He looks so full of the joy of life, it must have been a terrible shock. May he rest in peace.

  2. Thanks Marissa, you would have enjoyed meeting him and would have been awed by his verve for life.

  3. That post made me so sad Virginia and was a lovely tribute to a person and a friend. Patrick looks so young to have had a stroke. May he rest in peace.

    1. We are all still trying to cope with his sudden passing...it's been a blow to my entire psyche.
May he rest in peace....I'm not sure he would be able to do this...wherever he is, he is probably the life of the party.
