The end of the season

Did you take your Christmas decorations down today?  I did.
Today is Epiphany, which is the end or climax of the Advent/Christmas season. The twelve  days of Christmas begins with Christmas Day on December 25th and lasts until Epiphany, January 6th.

Epiphany is commonly known as Twelfth Night, Twelfth Day, Three Kings’ Day, or the Feast of Epiphany.

Epiphany refers not only to the day itself but to the church season that follows it – a season that has a varied length because it ends when Lent begins, and this depends on the date of Easter.

I met a lovely Canadian lady, a guest at my friend's home on New Year's Day, and we got to talking about Christmas and how it is celebrated worldwide.
She informed me that they refer to Epiphany as "Old Christmas" in her part of Canada where she grew up.  How interesting, I thought.  Once again, I had learned something new....yep, I'd learned something new on New Year's Day.

Since I did not go all out with decorating this time around, I had minimal decor to put away.

Today was "Old Christmas," time to put away everything Christmasy until next time.
T'is the end of the season.

  1. I will be taking mine down in a couple of days. We've left the tree up for our second wave of grandchildren visiting. If they've been able to wait until I get home from work, we'll be having a second Christmas present session tonight with them.

    1. That is really sweet, awaiting the second wave of grandchildren to visit.
I'm not even on to my first wave of grand children. Have a fun visit.
Most folks here will probably take their decorations down over the weekend when they are off from work.

  2. No decorations up = no decorations down - easy! Actually I did have my little Father Christmas (a gift some years ago from a dear friend) and this has just reminded me to put him back in his box for another year.

    1. GB you took the easy way out.....(none up, none down). I love your little Father Christmas who looks like he's having fun skating.
Soon it will be time to take him out again....since I predict that this year will fly by, it's already Jan 7th!

  3. I've been taking most of mine down gradually during last week, a bit early because they will be drawing cables here tomorrow and I had to take a lot more stuff down than just the Christmas things.

  4. Like you, I had minimal decorations up this year. Unlike you, I haven't taken them down yet. I think it'll have to wait till next weekend ... when I have more time. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the bright lights for a couple more days. It's so grey and gloomy outside and snow is expected on Saturday ... Yuk!

    1. I think if I were having your weather, I may consider leaving up the cheerful lights too for a while longer.
Hope things are going well for you at work....take care.
