Oh what a beautiful morning....

Oh what a  beautiful day......
Took a quick walk around the garden this morning....it was still quite early......but from the tinge of bright colour creeping into the morning hue, I could tell that it was going to be a beautiful day.

My new heliconia species was blooming for the first time.

The special baby croton was coming along nicely too.

My dwarf heliconia had a visitor. The good snail was hanging around....notice there are no bitten leaves.

What's this I spy? I hadn't noticed it before...the first flavour pepper from my tree....yipee.....pizza anyone?

The blue vervain wants to take over the entire garden bed....need to dry some leaves for tea.

White desert rose in all its glory, after a good dose of unused tea bag leaves. The abundant rainfall has damaged the frail flowers.

White mandevilla has had too much rain, hence the yellow leaves at the bottom

My new pride and joy......the Japanese privet seems to like under the Japanese fern tree.

I'm happy about the rainfall that we had, but I'm even happier now that the sun is shining again.....I don't have the heart to show you, but the grass needs cutting terribly.
I've got my week all planned out......weed....cut grass.......weed......cut grass.....cut grass....cut grass.

    1. Hi Deb, so nice of you to visit.
I have enjoyed reading your blog, and now I'm on the search for a thermal pot, and I have also saved some of your recipes to try later.
Thanks for the kind comments on my new floral babies.

  2. I love that heliconia. They would have to be my favourite plants. Haven't seen that one before.
I'm glad TS Isaac only brought you rain and no damage. I saw on the news that it caused heartache in a few places and hoped you were OK.
Oh, and do tea leafs help the Desert Rose bloom? Mine need some help.

    1. Missy, I'm going to ask the nursery for the correct name of the heliconia. I bought two different species (Mother's Day gift from my daughter), and they are now taking off after all the rain that we had.
TS Isaac was kind to us here, but lives have been lost in Haiti.
I discovered the tea leaves fertilizer by accident. I was outside about to make some tea leaf dye,(for a tablecloth) when the wind blew most of the leaves on to the desert rose. A few days later after watering, I noticed that it had a ton of blooms. It took me a little while to put 2 and 2 together, but after that I've been buying cheapo tea bags for this purpose. I think they like the acid.

  3. I am also wondering if tea leaves is what my desert rose wants - will have to look into that.

Try it and let me know how it works for you.

  4. Your week sounds extremely exciting! We had a ton of rain yesterday that we really needed. I give my used tea bags to my worms and they love it. Maybe I should try giving my struggling plants their own cup of tea. :o)

    1. Tammy, give the tea leaves a try, just regular old leaves, no fancy stuff like blended teas, although I suspect it will work just as well.
Remember only the plants that like acid will enjoy the tea leaves.
