Did you know that if you place a silver coin in a stored water vessel, that it will not gather mould?
I learned this a couple of weeks ago on the internet, and wanted to try it out first before sharing it with you.
I keep a spray bottle of filtered water for misting the leaves of my indoor plants. After a few days it was always necessary to clean and refill the bottle with a new set of water......well not anymore.
I placed a silver coin in the spray bottle weeks ago, and it still remains clean with no sign of green mould.

I love my television cooking shows, and on a recent episode I garnered this next piece of information from a fried plantain recipe on The Chew.
Fry lightly on each side.
They don't stick to the pan, and taste delightfully good.
If I come across any other new information in the future, I promise to share it with you.
I just learnt something too. I was curious about the difference between bananas and plantains. We don't have plantains here. They just seem bigger and a bit firmer maybe. Do they taste much different?
ReplyDeleteYes they taste different....sweeter in every sense of the word. I somehow thought that they would be available in your part of the world....they're a close relative of the banana.

ReplyDeleteIt also works with copper coins and bird baths although they do get green slime after a while. Those plantains look tasty. :o)
ReplyDeleteThanks for that info Tammy....no wonder they throw pennies in fountains, maybe they're not all for good luck after all!!
DeleteThat's a useful piece of information about the coin, Virginia. I love finding out little snippets like that. I have never tasted plantain - perhaps it's about time I did so if I can find them.
ReplyDeleteCJ I am sure that you had tasted some while visiting with GB, since he likes plantains too.
DeleteInteresting information about the coin and the water. Plantains!? I thought bananas were plantains. I can't recall ever having plantains which were not bananas (if you see what I mean). Do you remember something that I don't? This is very worrying. I love bananas though. I have baked them when they have become a little too ripe. I think I may well try doing with bananas what you did with the plantains. I think the children might enjoy those.
ReplyDeleteI somehow remember when I had the flu last year that I mentioned craving fried plantains when I was feeling better that you commented that you liked plantains too.
DeleteI can assure you that plantains are not bananas but they are in the same family.
I must write a post soon on the various kinds we have here.
