Father's Day Luncheon

Yesterday, Father's Day Sunday, I was cordially invited to the St. Stephen's Church Father's Day Luncheon.
Yes, I know it's my church, but I had not planned on attending, until I received "the call" from my girlfriend on Friday afternoon....you don't say no to her.

Organised with great expertise by my girlfriend, who was also the Master of Ceremonies, it was a lovely afternoon and I had a great time.
It was held at the St.Leonard's Boys' School Hall, and many church members and friends and family came out to celebrate.
It was refreshing to see my priest Rev. Fr. George Harewood sitting and relaxing with his flock and not officiating except over his meal.
As I mentioned, the event was well organised, and things flowed smoothly throughout.
Upon arrival, we were issued with two tickets...one with a number for our meal and the other ticket was for dessert. Our meal ticket was actually the chronological number of our arrival.  This way when the meal was served the numbers were announced in batches of 50 persons so it wasn't one long line headed for the serving table.

It was admirable to see the young members of the church officiating as Ushers and Hostesses.  We were escorted to our table by a well dressed young man (Christopher).
The Programme was chock full of live entertainment and provided a good backdrop to the scrumptious fare on the menu.

 St. Leonard's Boys' Choir
Dance presentations by the youngsters.

Dr. Gabby Carter
Local calypsonian singing one of his hits "Emmerton".
Singer Tony Grazette also performed.
Lots of tasty dishes to choose from
Cream of Pumpkin & Ginger Soup, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Plantation Garden Salad,
Baked Supreme of Chicken, Fried Filet of Flying Fish stuffed with fresh herbs and spices, Bajan Beef Stew, Glazed Baked Ham with Pineapple, Baked Turkey, Peas & Rice, Veggie Rice, Macaroni Cheese Pie, Caribbean Green Bananas with cod fish, Fresh Seasonal Vegetables, Assorted Cakes, Bread Pudding & Rum Sauce, and Fruit Salad.

The tables had lovely floral centrepieces and each table was labeled with a floral name....ours was Sunflower.  The tables beside us were Hyacinth and Spiderwort.

I think I can be forgiven for not remembering to take a photo of my plate, but I can tell you that I enjoyed every single mouth watering morsel on my plate.
After lunch, the dessert ticket was presented to the dessert table servers and you made your choice of your dessert package which was readily available.....no long line with folks insisting they want every single dessert that their eyes could see which is normally the case.

My dessert package came  home with me so I could share with you know who.
At the end of the afternoon, it was time for the drawing of the door prizes.
The Door Prizes were won by excited patrons who now have catamaran cruises, dinners, bank accounts, furniture etc to enjoy....I was not so lucky.

There were even special prizes for the father with the most children present, and the father with the youngest child present.

It was an enjoyable afternoon, and I think next year I will make myself available before I get another "call."
