Downtown Manhattan encore

It would have been quite remiss of me to visit downtown Manhattan, and not visit two interesting places that have always piqued my interest.
Let's get started.
On the way, this queer performance on the street.....

Painted from head to toe in silvery paint, and performing a musical number using the camera "audio thingy" around his neck and the implements at his feet....couldn't place the tune though.....

Foxwoods Theatre

At last we are there....... Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

Madame Tussauds, Times Square, NYC displays a collection of more than 200 painstakingly created life-like wax figures of celebrities, historical leaders, sports and cultural icons. The museum encourages visitors to snap photos of themselves with their favorite celebrities.
The artisans who craft each wax figure combine hundreds of measurements and photos taken when the subject poses. Amazingly, artists apply each hair by hand, and sometimes even add veins to the subject's eyeballs using red silk thread. After being cast in wax, celebrities often donate some of their own clothes or accessories for an extra-realistic display. Visitors can view this process at a special exhibit if they so desire.

A little history for you.....Madame Tussaud (born Marie Grosholtz) learned the art of wax modeling from her mother's employer Dr. Philippe Curtius, a physician who hired Marie's mother as a housekeeper.  Curtius was skilled in wax modelling, which he used to illustrate anatomy.  Marie's first wax figure was created in 1778 of the socio-political thinker, Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Morgan Freeman - one of my favourite actors  - almost impossible to believe he's only a wax figure.

Ripley's Believe it or Not! Odditorium
"Where fact is stranger than fiction."

Robert Ripley traveled the world collecting unbelievable and inexplicable one-of-a-kind items...from amazing to bizarre.

Sexy Sadie The Bearded Lady
Yes...she sings!!!

The Transformer "Bumblebee"
The Transformer statue was hand-crafted in Bangkok, Thailand by artist Anchalee Saengtai. It was created entirely from recycled junk car parts.  It weighs more than 1,000 pounds and features arms and legs that move.

Only in NYC would you get a chance to see Gordon Lightfoot while eating at a grillerie.

Anything that takes your fancy....if you're up late enough to participate...or if you don't plan to sleep at all..

Heading back uptown....looking back at all the exciting places.
That large hand on the roof is doing a good job of holding up the Madame Tussaud's sign don't you think?

Time for me to leave to catch the bus to my next destination.....see you soon.

  3. I've visited the original Mme Tussaud's in London (long time ago)...
You could certainly have fooled us with that Morgan Freeman image if you'd not told us where you came across him ;)

  4. From reading the online forums, many folks seem to prefer Madame Tussauds in London...I guess I will have to visit myself to form an opinion of my own.

  5. I, too, visited the London Madame Tussauds many years ago. I have to say that I can't recall much about it apart from the fact that I think it was in Baker Street (what an odd thing to remember).

"I hope the Pacific is as blue as in my dreams." Awesome.

  6. GB, you have a great memory, to recollect the minor details like street names from so long ago is admirable.
